Description

After two seasons of grueling XC Racing, testing on multiple machines, and countless FEA tests, we have designed the strongest, highest clearance Talon Lower A-Arm Kit for your Talon X or XS 2 seat or 4 seat machine. Made of 1018 Steel, our boxed, TIG welded, sheetmetal design with strategically placed integral gussets has proven to be the strongest while offering the largest arch for maximum gains in additional ground clearance (+2.75” on X Model) versus a straight tubular arm.

Why upgrade your machine to a high clearance style arm? - In our experience, the OEM Honda arms that come on the Talon are best suited for casual riders who aren't seeking to push the limits of their machine. Our arm design provides an additional 2.75 inches of ground clearance through the width of the arm and center track moving the critical suspension components out of the way of trail hazards and obstacles. This allows for better navigation of heavily rutted trails, improved ability to crawl over rocks and logs, and reduced chance of an impact at higher speeds that could put an early end to your riding day and result in an expensive repair.

Why a boxed steel design over tubular like OEM and other competitors? - We started this project with a tubular design but quickly found once the “high clearance arch” was introduced to the component, it promoted a location for fatigue and bending in every FEA and real world test. Without tremendous amounts of additional bracing and use extremely heavy wall tubing (which created a VERY heavy component overall), it was not feasible to build these arms in a tubular style and achieve the required performance what we were aiming for. Plain and simple, the arched tube style lower control arms are weaker than your OEM control arm. In order to offer the maximum gain in ground clearance and have equal or greater strength to the OEM design, we looked to the boxed sheetmetal control arm techniques used in some of the most grueling and abusive off road racing on the planet, Ultra-4 and Trophy Truck, for inspiration. The result is what you see here, a design that doesn't compromise on clearance, weight, or strength and can stand up to the extreme punishment of IXCR competition.

Bushings - After testing several different types and styles of bushings (bearing, spherical, heim, multiple grades of plastic) we settled on Nyloil® Nylon. Nyloil® is self lubricating, has extremely low moisture absorption, offers enhanced wear properties and less friction versus other grades of nylon and plastic. Additionally, we include grease zerks on each bushing to aid in allowing the clean out of water and debris to increase the lifespan even more. Like any bushing or wear item, they do still have a life span and replacements are easy to swap and relatively inexpensive versus other options. Our bushing sleeve is CNC machined and Zinc Coated to offer corrosion resistance and prevent seizing to the mounting bolt.
